having an X on your id is really not that big of a deal imo. like i 100% agree that gender markers should be removed from identifying documents altogether but i don’t feel like it puts a “target on your back” like that one post says. the actual target is me being gender nonconforming! i do have an X on my license but since i am already visibly gnc i really don’t think it has a significant effect on my safety on a daily basis esp considering that barely anyone sees my id except the weed st and certainly no one’s gonna ask for my birth certificate.
if anything i was probably in more danger when i was variably male-passing with an F on my id, but i don’t think anyone even looks at your gender when they card you anyway. idek if anyone’s ever actually noticed the X on mine. plus also, on a purely personal level, having my assigned gender on my card made me feel Bad and having an X instead makes me feel Better abt myself! and (perhaps most importantly) it’s frankly just pretty fucking sick
